C-weighting therefore includes much more of the low-frequency range of sounds than A-weighting. At levels 100 dB and above, the ear's response is flatter across most frequencies. C-weighting follows the frequency sensitivity of the human ear at very high noise levels. A-weighted measurements are expressed as dBA or dB(A). A-weighting is often used for the protection of workers against noise-induced deafness and is the only weighting mandated by international standard (IEC 60651, IEC 60804, IEC 61672, ANSI S1.4). Like the human ear, A-weighting cuts off the lower and higher frequencies that most people cannot hear.
